Welcome to the NS Health Quality Improvement page. Here you will find the core Quality Improvement (QI) resources and tools you need to start testing changes to improve care experiences and outcomes today! NS Health is committed to creating a culture of QI – one where team members are supported to develop the capability and capacity to implement, evaluate, sustain and spread successful QI initiatives at all levels of the organization (NS Health, 2021).
The Quality Improvement Hub
The Quality Improvement Hub was created to improve awareness of quality improvement (QI) initiatives build linkages between improvement champions who are testing changes to improve care and health outcomes in Nova Scotia.
Quality improvement Initiatives have a well-defined aim statement change idea(s) selected / developed by a QI team, who work collaboratively to implement time-bounded small tests of change (plan-do-study-act cycles) which require dedicated human and/or financial resources, and continuous measurement to determine if the change is an improvement. Information shared in the QI Hub should be aggregate level for improvement purposes. Please do not share any patient or provider confidential or sensitive information.
The QI Hub also acts as a repository for Clinical/Service Quality Projects.
Clinical/Service Quality Projects involve work that aims to improve clinical care/environments and service delivery but does not involve testing of change ideas through use of quality improvement methodologies (PDSA cycles, continuous measurement, etc.). This work could include, but is not limited to, retrospective chart reviews to inform best practice and/or current states, program evaluation activities, etc.
*Quality Improvement is protected under QIPPA therefore you will require Nova Scotia Health credentials to access Share Your QI Results and Share Your Progress and Learn from Others.
There are many things each of us do every day to improve quality of care and outcomes for our patients, families and colleagues. QI is a unique approach to test change ideas, adapt to local resources and contexts, and build the will to sustain and spread improvement. The resources and tools on this site will be updated regularly to ensure NS Health stays at the leading edge of QI best practice.
