Nova Scotia Health oversees the delivery of health programs and services in our hospitals, healthcare centres and within communities, focusing on delivering safe, quality care to residents.

Provincial Programs are responsible to direct, manage and monitor a care delivery system. They focus on the patients, clients and the care and service processes and outcomes.

Networks were established to ensure a strategic evidence-based approach to services across the province that are informed by and adapted to local community/service needs.

Provincial programs and networks work closely with zone operational teams who also manage and coordinate the day-to-day delivery of care and oversee people, planning and budgets.

Provincial Networks

Provincial Clinical Networks bring together physicians, clinicians, patients, operational leaders and other interest holders to drive system-wide improvements. These networks are designed to ensure a strategic, evidence-based approach to health service delivery across the province, while remaining responsive to the unique needs of local communities.

With a provincial scope, networks play a critical role in standardizing care, aligning services, enabling system transformation initiatives and achieving measurable, sustainable improvements in health system performance.

Networks complement and support the work and priorities of operational leaders and teams within Nova Scotia Health zones and programs to help ensure consistency, quality, efficiency and long-term system sustainability.

Networks include:

  • Access & Flow
  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services (Lab, DI, Pharmacy)
  • Emerging and Re-emerging Infections Network (ERIN)
  • Integrated Acute and Episodic Care
  • Frailty
  • Palliative Care
  • Perioperative (Surgical) Services
  • Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management

Provincial Programs

Provincial Programs are responsible for leading, managing and monitoring specific areas of health care delivery across Nova Scotia. They focus on the people receiving care—patients and clients—and on improving the quality of care, service processes and health outcomes.

Each program is accountable for the clinical, operational and financial aspects of delivering or coordinating a defined set of services. These services are tailored to meet the needs of specific care areas, ensuring consistent, high-quality care across the province.

Programs include:

  • Cancer Care
  • Continuing Care
  • Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)
  • eServices Program
  • Public Health
  • Mental Health and Addictions
