Change is constant, especially in health care. Physicians, as leaders, must help their teams overcome opposition to change, as well as assist in the often difficult transition period that shadows a change project. This page provides resources to build the knowledge and skills needed to champion and orchestrate change, and also to lead people through the complex internal process of transition.

In September 2023, the Department of Health and Wellness approved a request for Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health Centre to allow provincially licensed chiropractors access to publicly-funded diagnostic imaging services across the whole province.

Effective January 15, 2024, chiropractors in all parts of Nova Scotia will be able to order radiographs (x-rays) related to a patient’s clinical visit. Patients referred for an x-ray by a Chiropractor as part of their care will not be charged a fee for the examination.

Requesting x-rays is already part of a chiropractors’ scope of practice and is part of their core professional competencies. Until now, only chiropractors in the Central Zone had this ability. Chiropractors must be in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors to order an x-ray. Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health have completed the necessary technical workflows and continue to work closely with the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors to ensure a smooth implementation for providers and patients.

Overcrowding is a system-wide challenge and usually a result of a mismatch between capacity and demand. Evaluating client flow data facilitates development of strategies to meet variations, reduce barriers, and prevent overcrowding.
