Patient-Centered Priorities and Goals of Care: Capturing Crucial Conversations in Our Health Record

Nova Scotia Health and Doctors Nova Scotia are pleased to announce the launch of the Quality Improvement (QI) Rounds by physicians for physicians. The topics for the upcoming seminars will include:

  • Sepsis
  • Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Heart Failure
  • Pneumonia
  • Levels of Intervention
  • Urinary Tract Infection

The sessions are targeted towards all physicians who provide inpatient and Emergency Department care. Each session will run for an hour followed by 30 minutes of questions and discussion. All sessions will be recorded and available for download on the Doctors Nova Scotia portal.

Dr. Nabha Shetty, General Internal Medicine Specialist, provides a presentation on patient-centered priorities and goals of care. Objectives:

  • Review local and published data to help inform best practices with goals of care discussions
  • Introduce the new Goals of Care form for NSH acute care
  • Discuss if and how this form may be adapted for use in community settings

This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the Continuing Professional Development Office of Dalhousie University for up to 1.5 Mainpro+ credits.

This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by Continuing Professional Development, Dalhousie University. You may claim a maximum of 1.5 hours (credits are automatically calculated).

Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. In keeping with CMA Guidelines, program content and selection of speakers are the responsibility of the planning committee. Support is directed toward the costs of the course and not to individual speakers through an unrestricted educational grant.
