Zoom for Healthcare is a secure, web-based platform (video, audio, chat) specifically approved for health care providers to provide clinical treatment (patient in attendance or sharing PHI). This application was carefully vetted by Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health and is deemed to be the most secure method to ensure patient privacy and security.
MS Teams is the organizationally approved and supported platform for non-clinical meetings.
Apply for a Zoom for Healthcare Account
If you are a HCP who will be using Zoom for Healthcare to provide clinical treatment to patients or if you are an administrative assistant who will be scheduling for a HCP, complete the Zoom Request Form.
It is important that you do not click on the Sign-Up button on the Zoom desktop or mobile application as this will create a free basic Zoom account which is not approved for clinical treatment or sharing PHI.
Zoom Account Types
APPROVED AND SUPPORTED for clinical treatment and sharing PHI:
Zoom for Healthcare:
- Basic: Required if you JOIN clinical meetings scheduled by another licensed Zoom user
- PHI compliant
- Meeting ends after 40 minutes
- Cannot assign scheduling privileges to another licensed user
- Licensed: Required if you are SCHEDULING or HOSTING a clinical meeting
- PHIA compliant
- Meeting ends after 30 hours
- Can assign scheduling privileges to another licensed user
NOT APPROVED OR SUPPORTED for clinical treatment or sharing PHI:
- Free basic account: If you click on the Sign-Up button, this will create a free basic account.
- Zoom Pro/Business accounts: Some clinical service areas purchased their own accounts to use for non-clinical meetings.
