As part of the DCPNS Diabetes Specialty Services and Referral Pathways Committee, the Pediatric Diabetes Working Group has identified a need to support and enhance the capacity of Nova Scotia pediatric diabetes teams (diabetes educators and pediatricians) to care for young children with T1DM. Enhanced capacity of local teams will facilitate care closer to home for young patients and their families.
One measure to address this need is the availability of 2 "Toddler Tips" video modules. Drawing on the expertise and experience of the IWK Pediatric Diabetes Team, these modules provide an overview of the approach to diabetes care in children ≤ 5 years. Practical strategies and tips to facilitate care, manage behaviors, and promote cooperation with treatment are also shared.
