The Palliative Care Policies and Standards (P&S) Working Group provides leadership, coordination and accountability related to the identification, creation, and maintenance of the required policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols (PPGP) and standards to support the palliative care system. It includes strong partnerships with interest holders, programs, networks, and departments within Nova Scotia Health to ensure appropriate processes and engagement are leveraged to facilitate the work. Key responsibilities include:

  • Awareness of existing PPGPs and standards applicable to palliative care,
  • Proactive identification of variations in service and need for PPGPs and standards,
  • Facilitating the process for creation of new PPGPs and Standards (in collaboration with Dynamic Health),
  • Facilitating the process for revision of existing PPGPs and Standards,
  • Coordinating the implementation of new PPGPs and standards to advance and optimize system-level scope of practice, service-level, and practice support opportunities.

An intake form has been created to identify opportunities and/or issues arising on the front lines of care, or through other channels (i.e., strategic priorities, Accreditation) that would benefit from the review, support and/or guidance of the Policies and Standards Working Group.

Who can submit an intake form? Any clinician or formal leader working in the palliative care system at Nova Scotia Health. Note: If you are a clinician, please ensure you have discussed this submission with your supervisor/manager before submitting.

For any questions related to the form or the working group, please contact: palliativecare@nshealth.ca
