SUMMARY:Prevention and Management of Acute Exacerbation of COPD
DESCRIPTION:Nova Scotia Health and Doctors Nova Scotia are pleased to annou
 nce the launch of the Quality Improvement (QI) Rounds by physicians for ph
 ysicians. The topics for the upcoming seminars will include:\n\n\nSepsis\n
 Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease\nHeart Failur
 e\nPneumonia\nLevels of Intervention\nUrinary Tract Infection\n\n\nThe ses
 sions are targeted towards all physicians who provide inpatient and Emerge
 ncy Department care. Each session will run for an hour followed by 30 minu
 tes of questions and discussion. All sessions will be recorded and availab
 le for download on the Doctors Nova Scotia portal.\n\nPrevention and Manag
 ement of Acute Exacerbation of COPD\n\nDr. Paul Hernandez\, Respirologist\
 , will provide a presentation about Acute exacerbations of chronic obstruc
 tive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Outcomes of the presentation include:\n\n
 \nUnderstand the consequences of AECOPD to the individual patient and soci
 ety.\nBe aware of the evidence supporting management recommendations for A
 ECOPD.\nImplement strategies to prevent AECOPD.\n\n\nAbout the Presenter \
 n\nDr. Paul Hernandez is a Respirologist and Head/Chief\, Division of Resp
 irology (Central Zone\, Nova Scotia Health)\, Medical Director of the Pulm
 onary Rehabilitation Program and Medical Co-lead of the 3-Intermediate Car
 e Unit at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. He is a Professor of Medicine i
 n the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax\, Nova Scotia
 \, Canada.\n\nDr. Hernandez is past president of the Canadian Thoracic Soc
 iety (CTS)\, past chair of the Adult Respirology Examination Board of the 
 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada\, and past chair of the
  CTS COPD Clinical Assembly.\n\nPrior to moving back to Halifax\, he compl
 eted medical school and post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Re
 spirology at McGill University. His main clinical and research areas of in
 terest are COPD\, asthma\, pulmonary rehabilitation\, and pulmonary hypert
 ension.\n\nEarn 1.5 CME Credits\n\nThis one-credit-per-hour Group Learning
  program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physici
 ans of Canada and has been certified by the Continuing Professional Develo
 pment Office of Dalhousie University for up to 1.5 Mainpro+ credits.\n\nTh
