Group patient education is a session that involves a group of patients and/or caregivers receiving health care education virtually. Group patient education sessions may be:
Self-referred or voluntary group patient education: Health care providers are not required to register patients. Patients can choose to attend these sessions as it relates to their health and wellness.
Referred group patient education: Health care providers are required to register patients. Patients are required to attend as part of their care plan.
IM/IT Virtual Care Services have developed education and training resources for the use of Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health providers and administrative staff.
Many Nova Scotians don't have access to reliable high-speed internet or internet enabled devices.
Despite the many advantages to virtual care, many patients are unable to connect with their providers or attend virtual wellness sessions due to barriers related to internet connectivity and/or a lack of access to devices.
This project aims to decrease barriers to participating in virtual care by making iPads available for patients to access health or wellness services.
Patient resources can be found on the Nova Scotia Health public-facing website.
Virtual appointments must be registered in STAR or MEDITECH using a virtual visit code prior to the patient appointment or dictating occurring. Do not register a virtual visit using a telephone or in-person code. If you do not have a virtual visit code, contact your manager who can request a new code.
