Dr. Maria Alexiadis is an experienced leader with a diverse background in healthcare leadership and career that spans 35 years.
She has held many leadership roles both at provincial and national levels. Since 2018, Dr. Alexiadis was head of the Department of Family Practice in Central Zone and Interim clinical lead for Continuing Care across Nova Scotia. At present, she holds additional roles within Nova Scotia Health, including Senior Medical Director of Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management Network and most recently, Initiative Lead for Primary Care Transformation.
Dr. Alexiadis completed her MD at Dalhousie University (1988) and a rotating internship at the Ottawa General Hospital. She has practiced as a family doctor and a GP- Psychiatrist at the NS Early Psychosis Program in Nova Scotia.
She has been involved in establishing Post-COVID integrated care services in Nova Scotia and has helped lead VirtualCareNS, a virtual program at Nova Scotia Health to allow unattached patients on-line access to a primary care provider.
Dr. Alexiadis is a consummate problem solver and collaborator, applying out of the box thinking with vigor to complex challenges. She knows that Primary Care is the foundation of the healthcare system and is dedicated to help transform the system for the benefit of patients and providers.
Dr. Alexiadis was born and raised as a first Greek generation in Halifax and in her spare time, she is active in the Greek Community of Halifax including the popular Greek Festival.
