Dr. Bussey has practiced as an acute care hospitalist at the QEII since 2010, after completing her Family Medicine residency at Dalhousie. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, she practiced as a speech-language pathologist at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and Strait Regional Hospital and traveled throughout Cape Breton providing home-based early language intervention for children. She has led the QEII Hospitalist Medicine Service since 2016 and held the role of QEII COVID-19 Inpatient Unit Lead since April 2020. She is known for her professionalism, dedication, and passion for patient care.
The Zone Medical Executive Director works in co-leadership with the Zone Vice President of Operations. In this role, Dr. Bussey is an important advocate for Central Zone medical leadership and medical staff to tackle some of the largest issues impacting the health system today. In this role, Dr. Bussey sits within the provincial medical leadership team and holds a seat on the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee (HAMAC) and NSH Senior Leadership Team. She also chairs the Central Zone Medical Advisory Committee.
Originally from Newfoundland & Labrador, she grew up in Middle Arm -- a small town of 500 people on the central Newfoundland coast. She now lives in Halifax with her partner (also a physician), her three children and Cairn Terrier.
