Jamie Dawson serves as a Physician Onboarding Consultant within Medical Affairs at Nova Scotia Health. In this newly established role, Jamie focuses on enhancing the onboarding experience for physicians joining the healthcare system in Nova Scotia. His support begins when a physician accepts an offer and continues throughout their first year of practice, ensuring a smooth transition into their new professional environment.
Originally from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the North East of England and raised in Portsmouth, a naval town on England’s South Coast, Jamie relocated to Nova Scotia in May 2023. He moved with his wife, who was recruited as a Family Physician to work in a collaborative practice in Liverpool on the South Shore.
Before joining NSH, Jamie spent his career in the UK’s Central Government within the Defence sector, specializing in weapons and munitions procurement and management. His diverse professional experience includes roles in Program and Project Management, Customer Relationship Management, Business Process Redesign, Change Management, and Human Resources. He also earned two master’s degrees—an MBA and an MSc in Programme and Project Management.
Jamie enjoys the opportunity to help physicians settle into their new careers and lives in Nova Scotia. He finds the evolving nature of his position exciting and has been inspired by the passion and commitment of his colleagues at NSH. He also feels fortunate to be part of a supportive and fun team.
Outside of work, Jamie is a passionate sports fan. As a devoted supporter of Newcastle United football (not “soccer!”), he follows his team through the highs and lows. He stays active by playing golf, tennis, and pickleball, and takes full advantage of the warmer months to kayak and sail. Jamie also makes time for daily workouts at the gym, and when he wants to unwind, he enjoys getting lost in a good book—his favorites include psychological thrillers, historical fiction, and social science reads.
