Dr. Jonathan Ross

Dr. Jonathan Ross was born and raised in Halifax. He earned his medical degree from the University of Calgary and completed residencies in family and emergency medicine at the University of Ottawa in the Northeastern Ontario stream. He later completed a Master of Public Health degree at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Throughout close to two decades of practice, Jonathan has worked in a variety of contexts in Canada and abroad. His has practiced as a family and emergency medicine physician in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Haiti, Benin and Nova Scotia, including bilingual practice in English and French.

Jonathan's passion for public health comes from his extensive work with First Nations, Inuit, refugee, inner-city, rural and under-resourced patients and communities. In 2022, he transitioned from clinical practice to Public Health to focus more on addressing the social determinants of health, which play a substantial role in the overall health and wellness of populations. As Associate Regional Medical Officer of Health, he enjoys working with colleagues who share his commitment to improving outcomes for Nova Scotians.

Jonathan lives in Bedford with his wife and best friend Lynda, their two children, Grace and Leo, and their dog, Micou.
