Born and raised in Sudan, Dr. Ishraga Awad completed her medical degree at the University of Khartoum and her residency at the Soba University Hospital in South Khartoum. She later completed postgraduate training in public health and primary care in the United Kingdom.
For more than 25 years, Ishraga has practiced public and primary healthcare between Sudan and the United Kingdom. She has supported vulnerable adults and migrant health in Birmingham, provided public health leadership and direction for the development of palliative care services in Sudan, and helped that country build capacity and capability for public health services through knowledge exchange.
In 2024, Ishraga relocated to Nova Scotia and joined the NSH Public Health team as Associate Regional Medical Officer of Health. She enjoys working with teams across the province and looks forward to contributing to ongoing public health and wellness efforts.
Ishraga lives in Port Mouton with her husband, who serves as a family physician in Liverpool. She enjoys regular visits from her three adult children (and their friends) who live and work in the United Kingdom.
