Dr. Catherine Brown

Dr. Catherine Brown was born and raised in Ottawa and completed medical school at the University of Toronto. During her residencies at the University of Ottawa, she became dual trained as a family physician and public health and preventive medicine specialist. Prior to attending medical school, she completed graduate studies at Dalhousie University in community health and epidemiology, where she fell in love with the East Coast.

Catherine has been a practicing physician since 2018, starting out as a family doctor in Ontario and transitioning to serve in Nova Scotia. She started practicing public health mid-pandemic and supported both provinces’ COVID-19 response measures.

Since September 2021, Catherine has been the Regional Medical Officer of Health for Central Zone Public Health. As part of her role, she provides leadership and works collaboratively with Public Health team members and external stakeholders to prevent the spread of communicable diseases in Nova Scotia. During her time in Public Health, Catherine has developed a special interest in vaccine-preventable diseases, surveillance, and health impacts of climate change.

Catherine lives with her husband, daughter, and dog in Halifax. She loves hiking and cross-country skiing
