Dr. Vincent Agyapong is a Professor of Psychiatry and Global Mental Health, and the Head, Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University. He is also a Clinical Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Alberta and previously served as the inaugural Director of the Division of Community Psychiatry at the University of Alberta, and the Alberta Health Services’ Edmonton Zone Clinical Section Chief for Community Mental Health.
Dr. Agyapong was born in Ghana, West Africa. He holds a medical doctorate in Psychiatry and a PhD in Global Mental Health, both awarded by the University of Dublin Trinity College in Ireland. He was also awarded a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training by the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland.
He holds numerous fellowships from prestigious institutions including the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, the Royal Society of Medicine in the UK, the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK. He is also a member of the International College of Psychosomatic Medicine.
Dr. Agyapong has over 140 publications in international peer review journals. His research focuses primarily on health innovations that expand access to quality mental health care where he has won numerous awards related to his research and community service. Dr. Agyapong also led the implementation of the Text4Mood program, which has been recognized by the Mental Health Innovations Network, headquartered at the World Health Organization's Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse in Geneva, Switzerland.
In his spare time, Dr. Agyapong enjoys playing table tennis.
