Effective March 3, 2025, CYANOKIT® (hydroxocobalamin) will be added to the scope of employment for primary and advanced care paramedics with EHS. This medication is used as an antidote to cyanide poisoning, with more common sources being through industrial exposure, smoke inhalation from fires and certain chemical exposures. While rare, cyanide poisoning presents a severe and immediate threat to life. The introduction of this medication will enhance our system capabilities.
CYANOKIT® will be stocked on all Emergency Preparedness and Special Operations (EPSO) units, however, any EHS paramedic can administer it if managing a patient with suspected cyanide poisoning.
