Dr. Cristin Muecke, Regional Medical Officer of Health, Northern Zone

Cristin Muecke joined the provincial Public Health team in February 2022. She has a long history working in Public Health, including 16 years in New Brunswick serving as both a regional MOH and in provincial roles, including MOH of Provincial Programs and Deputy Chief of MOH. Her home base is in Truro at the Colchester East Hants Health Center.

What do you think PH staff should know about you/your role?

I have a great interest in the full scope of Public Health practice and services, and believe in the power of diverse teams and value of including varied professional skill sets (nursing, PHI, dietician, community developer, etc.). I have a particular interest in environmental health and climate change, and currently sit on the Advisory Board for the National Collaborating Center for Environmental Health. This year I am personally committing to installing solar panels and buying a hybrid car (next step full EV!).

What’s your favorite part of working for PH?

The people! So many kind, passionate and dedicated people from diverse backgrounds who work daily for equity, inclusion, and a better society for all :)

What is a ‘fun fact’ about you?

In 2013 we (me, my husband, my 10- and 5-year-old boys) packed our bags and travelled to Brazil for 6 weeks to welcome 10- and 11-year-old sisters into our family. This year my four kids will turn 14, 19, 20, and 21!
