We are pleased to announce that Dr. George Worthen has accepted the role of Interim Medical Lead for the Kidney Transplant Program, effective immediately. Dr. Worthen brings new clinical and academic expertise to this role.
Born and raised in Nova Scotia Dr Worthen is a graduate of Dalhousie Medical School with distinction and went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency and serve as Chief Nephrology Resident at Dalhousie. He further specialized with a Clinical Transplant Nephrology Fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. During this time, he also completed a certificate in Implementation Science from the University of California, San Francisco.
Since returning to Nova Scotia, Dr. Worthen has made significant contributions to the Division of Nephrology and the Department of Medicine as an Assistant Professor. He is a valued member of the Kidney Research Institute of Nova Scotia (KRINS), with a research focus that includes the application of artificial intelligence to improve outcomes in kidney transplantation. His work has been featured in high-impact journals and regularly presented at Department of Medicine Research and Quality Days.
When not in the hospital, George spends his time with his wife Maria running after their four kids and new puppy.
Dr. Worthen’s approach to leadership, clinical excellence, and commitment to innovation make him well-suited to support and guide the Kidney Transplant Program during this transition period.
